  1. They are flourescent bulbs - no filament.  Use less wattage to generate the same amount of candle power.

    Be careful using them. They contain toxic chemicals and if the bulb breaks, you need to open all the windows in the room and leave for 15 minutes. You then have wear gloves and sweep the broken bulb pieces into a bag. Don't use them over carpeted areas because if the bulb breaks the carpet will be ruined.

    They also cannot be thrown in the trash. The mercury in the bulbs will seep into the ground and contaminate the soil and groundwater. They need to be taken to a recycling center.
