How to enjoy running?

When I run, I do love it afterward. But, how do I enjoy it while I'm doing it?

  1. I think enjoying running goes beyond the music.  Most sanctioned races, like marathons, half-marathons, and 10ks and such, won't allow you to wear headphones for safety reasons.  I NEVER wear them when I run.  This is for three reasons.

    I like to hear myself.  I listen to my own body as I run and I pay attention to how I'm feeling and what's happening.

    I also like paying attention to what's going on around me.  I like to look at the scenary, the activity, and the action.  When music, you start missing some stuff.

    Lastly, to answer your question, enjoy running WHILE you're doing it by making it meditative.  Think about the world, compemplate the platitudes.  This is YOUR time by yourself, enjoy the solitude and the single-mindedness.  You don't have to worry about anyone else, you're on your own.

    Try that.


  2. okay this might sound weird but i love to listen to techno when i run because its up beat and it makes you happy when you listen to it which is good because running when your feeling down and tierd is not fun at all so just listen to upbeat music or make up random songs in your head whatever makes you happy and i totally know what you mean about the feeling after running its an awsome sence of accomplishment

  3. haha i know how you feel! today when i was running with my team it was in the cold rain i was like NOO it hurts so baddd. but then after you love it right? u feel accomplished blah blah etc. anyway, i just think of music since i don't have an ipod with me. or, just think of what you're going to do after or look forward to something. since i play piano, i visualize piano and try to play the songs in my head. whatever keeps your breathing steady and paced but ur mind off the running is awesome!

  5. you already have a lot of good answers, they each had a bit of something, and i agree.

    Pick music thats motivating, some songs i like are "Pon Da Replay" by Rhianna, "Bounce with me" by Kreesha, "thanks for the memorys" by Fall out boy, "Its not over" by Daughtry, etc, those beats and lyrics are fast pace, upbeat, tell a story, and something you can sing along to in your head and run with while your out there running distance or even sprinting.

    Also i find running different paths or different inclines (if on a treadmill) a different way to enjoy your routine, if you run outdoors dont run the same path, and if your on a treadmill, dont run flat, change the inclines, same for outside, maybe something too easy isnt enjoyable because its not more challenging. Plus i always find buying new sneakers makes running enjoyable, who doesnt like trying out a new pair of running shoes?! lol

  7. Depending on where you are running, set goals. For example, at my school we run on a 400 meter track (duh). Every time I come around a curve or straight, I focus on running the 100 meters in front of me at that moment and nothing else. I know it doesn't make sense...but it helps me. lol
