I live in Edmonton, Alberta. I want to visit Niagara falls. I have a few questions.

1. I beleive Toranto is the nearest airport to Niagara. How do you go from the Toranto airport to Niagara? Are there frequent bus services avaiable at the airport? If not, what is the alternatives?

2. Could you please suggest a good hotel nearby the falls ( in the viscinity of 2 kms ), with rate less than $100 per day?

3. Any other tips / advice?

thank you.

  1. To have a good vacation in Ontario, you'd better save up.

-Public transit sucks here.  To have a good vacation in Southern Ontario you'll need to rent a car

-Unless you're a gambler or love strip joints, you'll be done with Niagara Falls in about two days

-a hotel for under $100 around Niagara Falls will net you a seedy motel that probably has hourly rates and hookers in the lobby

Niagara Falls is a neat natural attaction.  Cool to see and the maid of the Mist is pretty cool.  The area around Niagara Falls, although getting better because of Casino money and new hotels going up, is mostly a run down border town full of cheap rip-off attractions and strip joints.  It is getting better though - new golf coures are opening up, new hotels, the rip off joints (ie Ripley's Believe or Not Museum) are getting fewer and real attractions are showing up and the restaurants are improving.

Save your money and do a vacation in Toronto with a day trip to the falls (about an hour drive) include another day trip for a wine tour in the Niagara Region (not same as Falls).

T.O. is one of the world's great cities but it'll cost ya'.

  2. The best plan from Pearson would be rent a car.  It is a fairly easy drive - 90 min or so.  I like taking the 407 as far as I can.  it is a toll road, but traffic on the 401/427/QEW is nuts

There are a lot of hotels in NF, but $100 will be a challenge in the summer.  Try Priceline.  personally I stay out of town - St Catherines for example.  It is a short drive and more "normal"

One day is more than enough for NF.  NOTL, the wineries, Welland canal, Port Dalhousie.  There are a lot of other things to do in the region.
