We are taking our 14 month old son on a 4hour 30min flight for the 1st time. Any suggestions of how to keep him from screaming the whole time? (He is very active, but has to sit on my knee for the flight) Any advice would be great!

Thanks x x x

  1. make him look out of the window and say wow look were in the sky

  2. I'm not sure but I'm the same taking my 19month daughter on a 2 hour flight shes very active and wont sit still for two minutes I'm thinking about taking books with me not like that will keep her entertained for long! good luck neway!

  3. I would suggest you get him up super early that day and keep him active and awake until just before you get on the plane then give him a good feed and change, etc, and give him some drowsy medicine - night calpol or something

  4. Take a 'magic bag' and in it put a selection of small things to entertain him :

A favourite book to read and look at

crayon and paper for scribble time

    A couple of toys

Interesting snacks (dry so they are OK for security)

Take an empty sippy cup and fill before you fly and encourage him to suck on take off and landing to help equalise ear pressure.

I would also take a sachet of calpol or similar in case he suffers from ear pain.

    Have a great holiday.

  5. give him a tad bit of benadryl it will make him a bit drowzy and if he uses a pacifire i suggest you give it to him because his ears will be poping the whole time i went through it with my son on a 3 1/2 hour plane trip it was hard on the way down for him we couldnt get him to stop crying

  6. Bring his favorite toys.

You can bring a couple of books to read to him.

If u have a window seat, show him the sky.

Most likely, he will fall asleep.

  7. Fly Emirates. They'll take care of it.

  8. when i went with my 13month old son we got the very first seats and there was a little space for him to play we took some toys and let him play at our feet and in the end he got ttiredand slept for two hours aswel, i would say get a late nnightflight or early morning so they are still tired and more llikelyto sleep on the plane, have a good holiday

  9. i wrapped some small toys up and gave them to my daughter to open every hour (her first flights was a 10 hour flight to jamaica!)

    she enjoyed it

  10. Snacks

    Books

    Crayons and paper

A portable DVD player and movies---this is the BEST!!

small toys (cars, small animals, ect)

    Blanket

    Lovey

  11. Depends on the time you're flying, if it's anywhere near a nap time, I once gave my child some piriton syrup to help him get off to sleep and he slept most of the way.

Other than that, we do bouncing, lots of standing on laps, looking out the window, blowing raspberries at the people over your shoulder and so on. I always go armed with plenty of snax including things I would not regularly give my child like crisps etc. Just to keep them occupied. It's hard. Don't forget book, crayons, etc...

The staff are usually really good on planes but it is a worry. I always used to dread flying with my toddlers but I was lucky and only really had one horrendous flight with my first.

    Good luck!
