Question:

How to entertain my siblings

My mom is 38 Weeks Pregnant and she is very tired and all she wants is a nap (which is hard to get when 6 kids are underfoot). I am 14 years old and the kids are 7, 5, 3, and then the twins are 15 months. What are some fun things we can do while Mom rests?

  1. Wow lets see here, how about turning on some music that the kids can listen to and dance all crazy and have fun singing.

  2. I would get paper, pens, glue, crayons, anything you can get to make some homemade crafts. When I don't know what else to do, we all just sit around the table and make something creative. The kids always have some great and crazy ideas when they get make crafts. Put the little one in the highchair and let him scribble as well. Put some snacks in the middle of the table (anything like carrots or crackers). This will keep them busy for a while. Just make sure to clean up afterwards for your mom.

  3. hi , you are so good helping your mam , jigsaws , making pictures painting sticking glueing (carefull glue is non toxic) ,a movie is good a favourite dvd , try hide and seek

  4. Bring them outside, a picnic to the park and that will gave your mom an energy boost for the afternoon. there's so much you can do outside

  5. Kudos to you for being such a thoughtful big sibling...

This is going to be a bit challenging as the younger ones can't participate in some activities. 7 & 5 can craft on thier own, 3 needs lots of help & 15 mos just won't be able to do much more than scribble with crayons. You can stretch out the time by making some fingerpaints & playdough... that can be done by all ages. Cut out pictures from magazines to make collages. the older ones can cut, one of the bigger ones askes the 3 yr old to pick a picture & where do they want the glue? put the spot of glue & let the little one put the picture down on paper. The twins (b/b, g/g or b/g? I'm a mom of b/g twins) could be put in an area & given some blocks or dolls or toys of some sort for a good clip of time, 20 mins or so, without too much hands on supervision. You can have a giant 'tea party' for lunch, make some PB & J sandwiches (or whatever) & some grape juice, have the younger ones "invite" some stuffed animals or dolls to the party. If you have a yard, you can put the sprinkler on & run through it, or try 'lawn bowling'. Make a story book. Try to google "rainy day activities" & see what else comes up.
