How to estimate the energy of wind turbine?

how do i estimate the annual energy output of a 5kw wind turbine in an area which has a average wind speed of 7.4m/s at 10m above ground level, and the rated wind speed of the turbine is 10m/s. there is no buildins around to interfear with the wind and the hub of turbine is 12m above ground level also how do i find out the prevailing wind direction in my area

  1. (5 KW)(7.4/10)^2 ≈ 2.738 KW

    (2.738 KW)(24 hr/da)(365 da/yr) ≈

    24,000 KWH/yr.

This is somewhat conservative, as wind speeds above 7.4 m/s will result in higher efficiency of the turbine.  Your local weather office will have information about prevailing winds in your area.
