  1. like at a university? its where you sit in a class room and watch a professor on screen who is lecturing live but from a different campus, there are camaras in the room you are in so the professor can see you and you can raise your hand and ask the professor questions, its rather annoying tho.

  3. the phrase is self explanatory - learning at/from a distance.

    unlike a regular classroom where the teacher & students are physically present together at the same time, in DL the teacher & student(s) are separated physically (ie, in space) & in time too.

    in the former, there is one-to-one interaction while in DL it may not always be so - there is a 3rd variable/medium present between the tutor & taught.

    this intermediary may be the computer, printed course material, video-conferencing, internet, telephone, post, etc.

    the student can learn at his/her own convenience, time, place & pace & may contact the teacher in case of doubts, or if there are any assignments to be submitted, or any special support classes being held, ....

    so teaching & learning activites are seperated by time, space, medium.
