Question:

How to exterminate red wasps in underground nests - HELP!?

I live in northern Will County in Illinois, next to a prairie preserve. In just a few days, red wasps with black wings have dug up what looks like multiple ant hills, each with their own entrances.

These mounds are along a landscaped rose bush/flower bed along my front walk! I'm afraid that if I spray wasp killer into one hole, they will come out a different entrance and sting me. I assume it is all connected underground. I noticed that the wasps back into the holes and dig like crazy.

Please, please let me know how I can get rid of them quickly-do I need to call an exterminator? I have dealt with wasps nests above ground before with spray, but nothing like this!

  1. For removal of nests and chemical control go to http://schoolipm.ifas.ufl.edu/tp13.htm

  2. Once you locate the nest, wait until after dark when the wasps will be in the nest and spray thoroughly with a Hornet and Wasp spray. The b******s will die in their beds!
