  1. you should make this easier.  you can purchase sandal wood oil.  I add a drp on top of a light bulb or you can mix perfume with that.

  2. http://patchouli-garden.stores.yahoo.net...

  3. poster one has the only way to go unless you are planning or reselling your produce!!!

  4. You would be better off buying it, but you can extract the highest quality from heartwood with hydrodistillation at home, by grinding the heartwood into a powder, then soaking it in a hydrodistiller, then heating it so that the steam contains the released essential oil. Allow steam to cool, collect off top.

  5. The process is very complex. If you have enough sandalwood of right age (it takes 30 years for the tree to form oil  - maturity); cut them in small pieces. Boil them in closed and sealed (for leakage) container; take the steam by copper tubing and cool it. Collect condensates; oil and water will separate by nature. Remove the water the oil remains. Water collected and that remain in the boiling pot too will have sandalwood fragrance.

(I am not so sure but; 40 years old sandalwood tree will have maximum 7% oil in its main steam wood.)
