One thing to keep in mind is that the Quran was revealed in Arabic not english. The speaker of English, therefore, has to be congnizant of  the tower of babel effect when reading translations of the Quran. There is a word in Arabic that is being translated to Fear in English. It doesnt translate exactly to Fear. For example, the antonym of the word that is translated as fear is rebellion not love. So when you as an English speaker read fear you think of doing the opposite of Love. However,  the word that is opposite of love in Arabic is Nafrath and NOT the word translated to FEAR. Therefore, Muslims never have nafrath for Allah. This might be a difficult concept for some Christians to grasp. If you dont understand, read the OT and come across the word FEAR of God used in Hebrew too.

[Shakir 3:102] O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah with the care which is due to Him, and do not die unless you are Muslims.

    [Pooya/Ali Commentary 3:102]

Ittaqullah means to safeguard oneself with awareness of the boundaries (physical, moral and spiritual laws) laid down by Allah so as to keep clear of sins and transgressions. There is no room for "fear" in Islam.Taqwa means piety or to ward off evil and take refuge with Allah, not out of fear, but because of the awareness and insight of the consequences if one breaks or tampers with the laws made and enforced by Allah for the benefit and welfare of mankind.

Haqqa tuqatihi means it is the duty of the creature to be aware of the creator's will and command. It is His prerogative that His creatures should, willingly or unwillingly, obey Him and carry out His commands.

Wa antum muslimun means full of faith, perfect in conduct, and strict in the observance of the law, which is possible when one surrenders and submits oneself unconditionally to Allah.
