How to feed the dog on harvest moon?

in harvest moon the beginning i have the dog with the pointy ears and i have no idea how i am supposed to feed him and what am i supposed to feed him.

Which harvest moon do you have? If it is 'a wonderful life' you just need to go beside the doghouse while holding a type of food and it will show a command for putting it in the bowl. This isn't really necessary, however.

I have DS and Friends of Mineral Town, have never fed my dogs, and they are happy and healthy enough.

It really depends on the game. Harvest Moon for SNES you don't feed the dog.
