How to figer out the answer for 2 1/4 - 2/3?

my daughter is haveing to take a very imported math test but i can't remember how to do it.

To figure out 2 1/4 - 2/3

First you want to make 2 1/4 into an improper fraction ( easier to work with) You should get 9/4 ( four times 2 plus 1)

then you'll have 9/4 - 2/3

You want the same common denominator (which will be 12)

times both sides of 9/4 by 3 (so denominator will be 12) and get 27/12

then times 2/3 both sides by 4 to get 8/12

So youll have 27/12-8/12 Minus the top and your answer should be

19/12 or 1 7/12
