He operates a lift truck at work. ok I have never had to file insurance before I was wondering do i file for his short-term he has on his job or file via my insurance? what steps do I need to take to make sure I am doing everything properly and using all benefits that we have paid for.

I am not trying to get over on the insurance company or anything I am just confused and have never been through something like this, I don't want to find out months later, that i could have done things a certain way and got the most i could get.

just want benefits or something to cover the time he is out of work.

Thanks for any and all help i recieve.,

  1. Your health insurance, will pay his medical bills.  His short term disability, might pay the loss of income.  Two different coverages.

So you have to file both.

  2. ~~Okay-your insurance covers his medical costs from the accident.

Next contact the short term disability ins. co (his human resource office can help you too), and they will give you a form to complete. You need the HR dept to explain all the benefits avaialable to him, or read his policy. They willl want the doctors reports, etc and you will get whatever you are entitled too. If for some reason, he isn't able to return to his normal work then the long term ins will kick in  Just follow the same procedure. His Human Resource Department should be able to answer all your questions too. Best of luck to you and wishing your hubby a fast recovery!~~

  3. Disability insurance covers loss of wages while injured or ill.  Health insurance covers medical care.  Two different things.

  4. Hi there,

If your husband truly kept his short-term and long-term disability insurance coverage through his job, for income protection purposes, he should speak with his employer about receiving the necessary paperwork to file the short term disability claim.  It's generally a form with some medical certification required.

He can not claim both unemployment and  short-term disability, that is not allowed.

Good luck and I hope he recouperates quickly!

  5. You should ask your husband employer if they will cover it under the short term insuranc he has with them. They should be able to help decide where to file your claim...then...

Give your insurance card to your health care providers and they should file the claims for you. Make sure your providers are participating with your policy. You can call your insurance company to get a list of providers and to get clarification on your benefits.

  6. He files the medical through the medical insurance with your company.  Meaning he gives the doctor the insurance card.

Then he files short-term disability at his work.

    They are separate and distinct.

  7. His human resources manager will help him file the claim. He probably has an exclusion period equal to the maximum vacation benefit allowed. In other words, he has to use up his vacation time before his short term disability policy starts to pay.

PS: I am assuming that he has a group disability policy, not something that he pays for like Aflac.
