Question:

How to fill a concrete gap, Rusty metal?

Here's my situation: I have a stock tank that is in concrete. On one side of the tank along about 5' of the foundation there is an inch wide gap between the concrete and the metal which appears to go all the way down. Also, the tank (which is 12ga. galvinized steel) is rusting from the outside. I have pressurewashed the gap so it is free from debris and wire brushed the metal to prep it. I want to know what to fill the gap with, and which kind of rust converter to use. any help would be greatly appreciated as this in unchartered territory for me. Thanks in advance!

  1. rust converter --galv iron primer on top of any good propreitary brand --there are many

next get some polystyrene rod about 1/12 inches dia and stuff it 3 or 4 ins down the gap along the gap`s length.

then apply a mortar --buy in bags --to fill the hole --or use fine ,bricklayer`s sand and cement in a 4:1 ratio

  2. I guess you might consider a commercial grade caulk. In instances similar I have used a mortar bag see link.Or you may find just caulking will do.Remember all caulking in not created equal, the commercial grades have allot of bonding power and great elasticity.

Body shops use a product that neutralizes rust and can but used in a spray bottle, easy to use.
