I just rented a 10-foot U-Haul truck, but I'm pretty sure I don't have enough things to fill it up. The question is, how do I fill up the empty space so that my furniture doesn't all shift back and forth while I'm on the highway?

  1. you dont need to because if you position it all right it wont move also you can tie it down

  2. they have load bars that they rent,  they go across the inside of the truck and secure by ratcheting action.

  3. Large to small use box's to fill spaces> mirrors between mattress> lay out what you have and put together like a puzzle>to the sides front to back>

  4. objects tend to slide toward the front of a vehicle.  Think about it -- you wont be accelerating very quickly in a weighted-down Uhaul, but you will probably need to hit the breaks several times.  Begin by packing the largest items at the front of the truck up against the wall.  if you have extra room, use as much floor space as possible.  in other words, pack things low to the ground so they are not likely to fall.

brace everything to resist the side-to-side forces your truck will experience going around turns.  for example, pack boxes tightly so they cannot move left or right.  Its ok for stuff to be able to slide forward and backward as long as it is packed toward the front, but it is absolutely NOT ok for stuff to be able to slide side-to-side.  Objects that are not braced horizontally WILL shift during transport.

surround fragile items and fine furniture with blankets and pillows.  cover panes of glass with masking tape and pack them on-end.  should they break in transition, this will keep them from shattering into a million pieces.

if you pack everything correctly, you shouldn't need ties. (Im assuming this truck is covered)
