Question:

How to find a specific grave location?

I need to know how to find a grave in a cememtery. I have no idea what section, and obviously I would never find it without any guidance.

So I want to figure out how to find a specific section of the cemetery where the grave might be, and go from there.

Thanks!

P.S. findagrave.com doesn't help

  1. Each cemetary has a  superindent (someone response for the books).  The books contain information like the person's name, plot #, location and dates.

I would suggest contacting the office of the cemetary you are going to and tell them you are looking for a particular person but you are not sure where that person is buried, if the person is in that cemetary the office worker can tell you where they are located.

Also the employee can tell if the person is not in there cemetary.  I'm currently working on my family tree and where I thought a relative was buried is actually not where they are.

    Good Luck

  2. If it is a nearby cemetery you are referring to, call or write to the administrator. All cemeteries keep record books of what people are buried in what section, and probably have a map as well if you aren't familiar with the layout. I had to do this when I "adopted" a lady's grave in my grandparents' hometown (she'd been buried for 10 years with no headstone at all--just the tiny cemetery marker they put in to let the groundskeeper know that particular area is in use. It was getting to where you could barely read the marker, and I wrote to the administrator to find out who her relatives were, because if they didn't want to get her a stone then I was going to. My cousin and I were the only ones to ever leave flowers for her, and we didn't even know the lady. She'd been either 81 or 91 when she died).

Findagrave would not help unless the person in question's information had been submitted to them.

  3. Hello :)     If you know the name of the cemetery and its location, contact the caretaker that is usually there on site either by phone or by actually visiting the cemetery. They should have an index of those interred and can give you directions and/or map locations as to where certain individuals are buried.

  4. most RECENT cemeteries have records, but if it is an older cemetery, that is not always correct.  Older burials can be "lost".

If you don't know of the office, or caretaker... call the local funeral home and ask them who has the records.
