How to find art appraisers?

I bought a painting at a thrift store and It is soooo beautiful I would like to find out who painted it. It is signed CARTER (Printed) it's a mountain scape with pine and aspen trees, snow covered mountains and a pond

  1. There are a lot of factors to consider when determining the value of the artwork you purchased. First is it an original work. There are a lot of mass producers of art who have mastered the art (no pun intended) of oil painting look alikes. So, first, is your painting an original oil or is it a reproduction. Second, even if it is an original, there is no guarantee that it is of any great monetary value.  Its value may be simply intrinsic. This is to say that the value is the beauty of the painting and the pleasure it brings you.

    In any case, to know for sure I would start with a museum. Most museums have individuals who are experts in this area. I have also indicated a helpful website below.  Good luck!


  2. I would take it to an auction house sometimes they have free appraisals.  Butterfields use to do it once a month.  You can also take it to an antique fair as they also give free appraisals.  Some museums do give appraisals but I would call first.
