  1. If the manufacturer is still in business, most of them will supply that on a website.

Few if any will have identified HP on the plate.

You usually find model, type and serial number.

HP will vary as RPM varies and most of them have a governor that limits RPM far below what would produce maximum HP. So actual HP and potential maximum are only casually related.

  2. This question really belong here, no matter what you're using the data for.  It'd be like asking a question about computers for use in religion in the religion in spirituality section.

Wouldn't this best be asked where they have questions on autos or the like?

  3. First determine the make of the engine ie.. John Deere, Caterpillar, Cummins, etc...  John Deere will have two plates one on the valve cover and one on the block.  I cannot speak for the locations of other engines.   After you write down the serial number you can call the engines distributor service department and they will be able to track down that information for you. If you have access to the internet the manufacturer website will direct you to the nearest service dealer.

P.S.  Give the whole serial number or they will take much longer, example of a Deere S/N  PE6068H123456   the distributor will need all of this to determine the year and horsepower, and the Model of the engine.
