Divide the year number by 4, and also by 100. If it is divisible by 4, but not by 100, it is a leap year.

If it is divisible by 100, it is a leap year if it is also divisible by 400.

Examples: 1783 is not divisible by 4, so it is not a leap year.

1988 is divisible by 4 but not by 100, so it is a leap year.

1900 is divisible by 4 and by 100, but not by 400, so it is not a leap year.

2000 is divisible by 4, 100 and 400, so it is a leap year.
