Question:

How to find my grandmother's grave

my maternal grandmother died when my own mum was only 9 months old in 1930. Her first name was either Ann or Annie or Anne, we know her surname, we don't know her exact date of birth, she was a romany gypsy and her date of birth is 'assumed' on the marriage cert. We know where she was living, i.e. the town, when she died, but don't know where, or even if she was buried. Can anyone help me out, where do I start. Thank you

  3. Try contacting the Salvation Army they are pretty good at this sort of thing even if they can't do the actual leg work they would point you in the right direction here is the link for family tracing this is the route I guess you would have to take to contact them

have you thought about trying to contact the diocese of Essex see if you can get access to records for burials etc

Hope you find what you are looking for best of luck

  4. Your best bet would be to investigate the burial records for all the churches local to her final address. As it was in 1930 the records should still be with the individual churches, as for a headstone? It is possible that she didn't have one, i have Roma ancestors, and they didn't always have a headstone, it depended on how well off my family was at the time. Have to add that, even without a stone the church may have a record of where your grandmother is in the churchyard anyway, my grandfather didn't have a stone, but there was a map at the church that gave his location, however not all churches do that.

Good luck, i hope that you find your grandmother's final resting place.
