  1. Split the area into regular shapes (squares) and calculate area of each square and add.


  2. The irregular shapes must be having some end points (unless it is a shape like an amoeba!!)

    join those points in such a manner that you get trapeziums, triangles, rectangles etc.

    for all these we have the formula of area. find the area and add it up.

    You'll get the area of your irregular shape.

  3. Join every pair of the vertices. Make as less number of triangles as possible, since some of the quadrangles may not be measurable. Find area of each triangle (hoping you can measure the sides) using

    A = sqrt[s(s -a)(s -b)(s -c)]

    where

    s = sum of sides / 2 = (a+b+c)/2

  4. put a square grid overlay over your land area on paper or use a best fit shape(s) that you do know the area formula for.  Then add the area of the shapes.

  5. Carry out a surface integral
