How to find out if my great grandpa fought .....

Hi, I'm trying to find if my great grandpa fought with the english in african. He would have fought in the late 1800's. My cousin says he was in the american legion. If he was in the american legion how can I look that information up? Can you help? Thanks!

You could contact the National Army Museum - they may be able to help

And contact the national archives - you can search their records, but they charge a small fee I think it's £3.50 (about $7.00) for printable documents.
