How to find out what frames per second I am getting?

I just want to know if there is a way of seeing the FPS i am getting when playing games on my pc.I know how to do it when i play Flight sim x,so i was just wondering if anybody knows how to do it for other games.Many thanks.

You should try out FRAPS. It is a video capture software but if you leave it on and play your game, it will show a small FPS box in a corner. Download it and see for yourself: http://www.fraps.com/
