How to find proxy settings?

on windows live messenger, it says that my proxy is either offline or invalid. when i check it, it's all blank, so i guess it's invalid? how do i get a proxy server?

your live messanger is configured to use the proxy server to get connected  to the internet, are you sure you are using a proxy server to connect to internet ??  if you really use the proxy server and u are able to open open web pages then you can find the proxy server address in your internet explorer setting. click on start menu open control panel, in control panel open internet option in internet option select connection tab click on lan setting you will find the proxy server ip address and the port number... use the same port number and the IP address to configure your live messanger... in case if you see the "Automatically detect settings" is selected then my dear you are directly connected to internet no through proxy server. In that case configure your messanger as directly connected to interne

You don't need a proxy server.  If you use one, the settings have to be correct.  Evidently you have something entered in the proxy server boxes, but you aren't using a proxy so you should leave all that blank and unchecked.
