How to find the right saddle?

Question

My mother bought a retired thoroughbred racehorse...She is learning to ride on a quarter horse first, but she rides western saddle. She said she is leaving me the horse in her will (and of course I can ride it now) but I ride English. If I wanted to buy my own saddle, how would I know the right size to get or have made?
