My next door neighbor asked me the other day if it was possible to find out the status of a couple old treasury bonds that he sent home to his father while he was serving in WW2, so he does not have the paperwork anymore, but he does have the numbers of the bonds and stuff and the issue date, i would like to know if there is a way to see if they were cashed or if they were just sitting around, We believe that his father did not cash them, if so then how would you cash them, thank you so much for your help

  1. copy this web site address

    http://www.treasurydirect.gov/forms/sav1...

Fill out the form with as much information as you know.

    mail the form to

Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Public Debt

E/EE/I savings bonds – PO Box 7012, Parkersburg, WV 26106-7012

I helped a client with this form and received an answer with a few weeks.

A few weeks after that the Treasury direct deposited the cashed value of the bonds to her account.

  2. contact the Bureau of Public Debt, usually you will need to complete form PDF 1048, on the Treasurydirect.gov website or have your neighbor go to his local bank, and they will/should help him with completing the form and sending it to the Bureau of Public Debt.
