  1. What are your strengths and weaknesses?  Do you like math and science, or the arts?  First and foremost, you need to answer these questions about yourself.  For the first year or so, figure out which classes interest you, and what job skills would require these interests.  There are also tests that you can take that your college probably has information about, where you take a test that can determine which area of careers would interest you.

  2. Talk to someone in your schools career services office (if they have one, and they should if its a good university).  I couldnt figure out for 2 whole years of college what I wanted to do and changed my major three times, then I went to career services and they had me take this survey type thing on the computer that assessed my interests, strengths, weaknesses and so on.  It was right on and now I am doing exactly what it said I should do and I cant imagine doing anything else.  Might not work for everyone, but it definitely helped me.  Good luck to you!

  3. there is a book that you should read and the name is something like 90 days to the job you'll love.

  4. You can never be sure, its like a person, your interest will change and so will your perfect career. My sister spent 4 years in pre-med and by the end of it she spent thousands on a skill which she no longer wished to use and wanted a job that did not require any of the skills she learned at college, it was a total waste of time. Truth is, you'll never know
