How to finish a stamped cross stitch blanket?

I want to put my nephews name and my name on the blanket so he will know who made it for him. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this. I was going to cross stitch something but I don't have any patterns and I really don't want it to big. Does anyone think that a fabric marker will work just fine or would it look better being stitched since everything else is on the blanker. Please help baby shower is a week away.

Thanks

  1. A counted cross stitch alphabet pattern book could be a help.  It won't take long to get the letters done.

    Good luck.

  2. My mom always takes a permant marker and signs and dates all her quilts any more.  A permant marker doesn't wash out.

  3. ahahah

  4. I wouldn't use just fabric marker, if they ever have to wash it it may bleed or wash off completely.

I'd just do a simple, small backstitch - write it first with washable fabric ink, then do a backstitch over that.  I'd do it in the bottom corner, like an artist signs his paintings.  I don't think I'd put his name on it, it's obvious it's for him - unless you want to do a little dedication, like "To little so and so, lovingly made by Aunt Whoever" and the date.
