Question:

How to fix a draw??

Okay, recently I have been having a problem with my draws. When I drive a ball with my Callaway ERC Fusion it will go perfectly straight. But when I hit with my Taylor Made 425 R7 it will fly straight then shoot to the left. Which is a draw. So what am I doing wrong and how do I fix it. Or is it to much of a problem to worry about and just should drive with my Callaway. Thanks...

  1. Well first of all that's not a draw. A draw is a straight shot that falls inside. For a rightey that's left. It does not turn or "shoot" anywhere. What you have is a hook. Not a pull hook which is a duck shot that the most hideous players incur but just a hook. What causes this is that the ball is spinning at an enormous rate and once it's velocity begins to slow it's spin takes over and makes the shot hook. This is caused by an "inside-out" swing combined with a slight glancing blow. The way to fix it is to keep your hands forward of the clubhead. Feel as if your forward wrist is leading the way through. If you try this and still have a problem, move the ball away from you and forward. But in reality if you drive it well with one and not the other why drive with the other? That's the whole reason you change your equipment right?

  2. loosen up on your grip

  3. If it is a draw and not a massive hook you can try a couple of things one at a time at a driving range.

Weaken your grip... in other words rotate your hands more counter clockwise on the shaft when you set up.

    Close your stance a bit

If your club face tends to be a bit closed at impact think in your mind that you are hitting two balls in the direct of your shot about an inch apart and you must keep your club face constant so you hit the second imaginary ball.

Draw (good actually) Hook (bad) is your ball moving from right to left if you are a right handed --  you can force a ball to draw more by closing the club face a bit so their is side spin put on the ball....   The reverse is true for a Fade which is not a severe as a Slice.  Draw shots actually ROLL FURTHER so  you might want to learn to use it and control it better since most people WISH they had a natural draw !!!   It's the chronic slicers who want to actually "slice" their throats :) !!

  4. Be sure to turn your wrists and forearms over.  With a driver be sure to get full hip rotation. Before each shot, swing the club back and forth, exaggerating the turn over. It worked for me, good luck!

  5. stick to the callaway

  6. if it draws thats okay, just compensate your aim for it if it is consistent.  a hook is what you have to worry about .
