Question:

How to fix a laptop charger?

My charger is being g*y.. I plug it in, but my laptop doesn't charge. It says in the corner "Plugged in, but not charging". So I can't take my laptop places because it has to be plugged in all times. Then now and again it unplugs itself! It's so annoying because when it unplugs itself it goes off because it has a low battery. And I refuse to buy another one because i've bought like 3 laptop chargers since i've had my laptop. Also the chargers are really expensive. I've had it since Christmas. Can someone help me fix this problem? It's annoying me so bad

  1. Are you sure it's the charger that is the problem, or could it possibly be the battery?

Heres how you can test it.

Leave the computer "Plugged in, but not charging." Next, remove the battery. If the computer remains on while the battery is out, then your charger is functioning properly. If the laptop shuts off, then it could either be the charger, the battery, or both.

My guess is that depending upon how old the laptop is, the battery is probably at the end of its lifecycle. This would explain why it can remain powered on, but die when unplugged.

  2. Sounds like a battery problem, not a charger problem.
