How to fix a scratched dvd?

Im trying to copy one of my dvd movies for a friend.It's scratched in an area on the disk thats pretty deep.I can't copy it due to that.Is there anything I can put on the disk to get it to copy?

If it's scratched on the top side - where the label is - forget it.  If it's on the "plastic" side you might look around at a music store or the audio section of some place like Best Buy and look for a CD/DVD scratch repair or polishing kit.  Sometimes it'll help, it's sort of 50/50 unfortunately.
