  1. remove door handle and the door panel easy see what is the problem  .. most likely its off track or the handle is bad either way not a hard thing to check and see what it is could be the window off track could be a gear bad..  some window cranks have small clips behind it you pull off with a bent hanger and door handle have screws the panel have pop buttons just pry and pull lightly

  2. i had that trouble once with my ford the window came off the track that has rollers that ride along the bottom of the glass so the window won't move. If you can try taking of the door panel that is held by clips. Make sure you know how to pop them out because they can break very easy. Once it's off then you'll most likely see the problem your having. If your not sure how to do it then take it to your Pontiac dealer, or a place that replaces car glass windows, their much more cheaper then the dealer.

  3. You don't describe what happens when you crank the handle. Does it turn freely, make clicking noises or refuse to budge? Has the handle come loose, lost a clip or stripped out? Check this before ripping the door apart.

As a temporary fix, see if you can grab the window glass at the top, and pull it up with or without cranking the handle. If you cannot grip it with your fingers, you can use a pair of slip-joint pliers with a cloth between the jaws and the glass to grip the glass. If you do this with anything approaching reasonable care, this should be perfectly safe. If you can get the window up, you may be able to tape it up if necessary.

To remove a door panel, look under things like arm rests and such for attaching screws. Look for small covers or trim that might snap off to expose fasteners. Often there will be a s***w in the well of the door handle, for instance. Look for and remove nuts or retainers around controls that stick through the panel, if any. Put all the parts safely aside where they will not get kicked into the grass or lost under the car seat, or whatever.

Once you have removed all screws and attachments you can find, you will need to remove the door panel itself. They are usually held on by clips attached behind the edge of the panel. They snap into holes in the door. Start near the lower corner and gently pull outward in places, first with your finger tips, then, if necessary, a flat tool like a stiff putty knife or a screwdriver. Slide the tool between the panel and the door. Try to find the clips and pry or pull near then without damaging the door panel. If you break or lose clips, they can often be purchased at a parts store.

The top of the door panel usually hooks over the window opening at the top of the door. Once you get the door panel free around the bottom and sides, try to lift the door panel upward off of the door. There may be some clips to overcome with a quick smack upward on the bottom of the panel with your open palm.

Once the panel is off, there will likely be a moisture barrier made of plastic or treated paper. Remove that along the lower edge and sides, trying to preserve its integrity.

From here, you will have to assess what is wrong. I don't know your car specifically. It could have a plastic "belt" of sorts in a track to push and pull the window glass, or it could have a lever mechanism. You can probably look up an exploded view of your door parts by searching for GM parts sales online. The catalogs will often have exploded views so buyers know what they are ordering.

In any case, you will have to assess what is wrong, and fix it, or replace a part. Putting things back together goes pretty much the same way they came apart.

Here is an exploded view of a 2002 Pontiac GrandAm door.

  4.      Yes take off the door panel. Do this by looking for all the screws that attach the handle, usually underneath.  The door panel itself is usually held on by clips.  So use a flat head s***w driver to CAREFULLY pry it off.  You do not want to scratch the paint or break the clips, and they are usually plastic.

But be very careful when working with the window!  If you break it you'll have to buy a new one.  I suggest that before you start this operation, place something soft and squishy on the ground.  It's also nice to have a second pair of hands, just in case.

Since this is a manual door, the window has probably come off of the track.  You have to look how it is held in the track.  Some cars use glue on plastic clips.  If this is the case, snap the door panel back on and go to an auto-parts store or auto body shop for the correct glue, and possibly new clips.

The other choice is that the mechanism is stuck.  If the handle turns, but nothing happens, then you won't have to play with the glass, but you will have to figure out how the handle attaches to the gear mechanism and put it back in order.  If the handle doesn't turn and the window is on the track, then something is probably jamming the gears.

No matter how you wind up fixing it, now would also be a great time to lubricate the gears.

  5. Just sell your pontiac and by a 2001 Toyota. It's better and you can save a lot of money

  6. Sounds like your window regulator might have gone south.

To remove the panel remove the five phillips heads s***w located along the bottom of the panel and in the closing handle.  Remove the window crank.   Gently pop the plastic fasteners out from around the entire panel.  Then remove the plastic water guard to gain access to the regulator.

You might just have something bound up in there but most times the regulator needs replacement.

  7. First undo the door lock latches, it's very simple, all you need is a s***w driver. After that is being done, use a thin object such as a business card to find the clips of the door panel by inserting it between the door and the panel. After they are found, you should be able to remove the door panel. It's very likely that the window is fallen off from the track. Once you can physically see the problem, the rest comes very easy.
