  1. one way to help fix this is by taking a stronger grip.  in other words, when you grip the club rotate both hands slightly towards the ball.  practice this on the range first.

  2. Lessons and practice time are the only true solutions to swing flaws

  3. ALOT of time at the driving range !!!

  4. motoboy is right.

Another reason to cause the dreaded hook is that your swing is too horizontal.  It could cause those ugly hooks.

Another cause is you are too quick to pull back  your clubs at the forward swing. Focus on the follow through towards target line at least a  few inches to 1 feet away after hitting the ball and it may help to shave some of the hooks away.

  5. focus on a one-piece take away. dont pull the club back with your arms but focus on the shoulder turn.

  6. i used to have that same problem, but only with a slice to the right. It can get really annoying, trust me i know lol . What helped me was to just stop and think, REALLY think about what you were doing. Becasue a hook usually is the cause of when in your back swing, on your way down, you close your club head inwards therefore causing you to hook it. Also what helped me, is not trying to hit it near as hard as i used to. Just hit it straight, and get my groove down, then slowly building up my distance and strength. So what if these guys hitting off the tee can hit it 300 yards. All your strokes are in your short game, chipping and putting. Because when i go and golf at my local golf course, i can only hit it off the tee about 240 250 yards. But where i make up for it is in my short game. Most people that can hit the ball farther than me, I end up beating them by a stroke or 2. Because i work hard on my chipping and putting. Hoped this helped, and sorry it was long. lol

  7. As you can tell from reading all the above answers there could be any one or more of a number of issues causing you to hook the ball.  A draw is a good shot to have in your bag and is one of the most sought after and difficult shots to master.  If your draw is turning into a hook, I'd suggest that you weaken your grip just a little.  I had the problem of a slice for a long time and finally, through lessons and much practice finally have been able to get rid of it.  I have now developed much the same problem as you describe, where I can hit a nice draw most of the time but on a bad day it turns into a hook.  I found that weakening my grip just a little straightened out the hook.  Spend some time on the range playing with your grip a little just to see what results you come up with.  If that doesn't work for you, you might need to see a pro for a lesson.

  8. If you swing right-handed, a hook is almost always the result of bending your left elbow too early in your swing. (Vice-verse for left-handed, of course)

remember that and only bend at the end!!
