Question:

How to fix my new hardwood floors?

Hi, we just bought a new house and I found ants on our hardwood floors. We didn't have any bug spray so I used Spot Shot (carpet cleaner) and saturated them. (Dumb, I know...now anyway!) Then the wood turned a white dingy color and as I wiped it all up it almost looked like carpet fibers were wiping up too but I think it was the finish of the floor. And now that part of the floor feels more rough than the others, exposed I guess.

I'm really bummed. :*-( Anyone know what I can do to fix it please?

  1. contact a flooring company...they will be able to help u......u should just have to reseal after a good cleaning.....

    lic. gen. contractor

  2. if it's stained the only thing you can do is refinish it.  sand, stain and apply a clear sealing coat.

or get a nice area rug to put over it...

  3. Im a nurse. I work around very sick people, so I always spray my uniform with lysol before entering the house. Well this time. I sprayed my shoes with lysol right at the entrance of my house. Well when I walked back down to the entrance, I noticed my wood floor in that area was cloudy white. I noticed it was the same area where I sprayed the lysol. I tried washing it off and using wood floor cleaner, but the white cloudiness kept comming back. It felt rough, so I tried to gently scratch it with my nail. It seemd to help, but the cloudy dull whiteness came back agian. I was freaking out!!!!! Well my friends have been telling me about a product called Rejuvenate. They said it helps old floors or damaged floor look like new. I didn't beleave them. So I went to some of their houses and their floors looked GREAT!!!! So I thought, oh well why not try it. Im not sure if you have a HomeDepot out your way, but that's where I purchased it. You can also get it online or get your HomeDepot to order it. It is pricey, but a little goes a long way. It ran me around $20 in my area.I poured some on the white area, and then rubbed it in with a tissue until most of the liquid was scattered around and there was no sign of the white stain. Instantly the white stain went away. But I figued as soon as it dries the stain will come up again. To my surprise, it was completely gone!!!!!!! Plus that area looked glossy and brand new. It looked so good, I decided to use it all over my wood floor. Now my floor looks brand new. You need to try it, and let me know how it works for you. I love the stuff. I put a little of it on my floors every 6 months as a retouch, to keep it looking glossy and brand new (mostly after winter snow/salt traffic through the house). The stuff is great!!! Make sure you get the one made for floor one, because they also make one for cabinets and deep floor cleaner. I haven't tried those two yet. I'm gonna try the cabinet one soon, I'll let you know how that goes. I don't think I'll try the deep floor cleaner because the one I listed above works great. Plus I think the deep cleaner would dry out the wood floors.

  4. "Spot Shot" should not have affected the finish of hardwood protected by polyurethane. It could damage it if the finish is lacquer or a wax. Short of calling a professional wood floor refinishing company (most of them offer free estimates) your best bet (if it is truly a new home) is to contact the builder. It might be cheaper and easier to replace the affected boards. I am assuming that the flooring is prefinished due to the ease the Spot Shot damaged your floor and to the age of your home (you claimed it was new).^
