Question:

How to fix the pull cord for the shower?

I have pulled too hard on the shower switch cord and it has come out of the switch-box on the ceiling. Can the string be put back in and how?

Would I have to buy a whole new switch and get electrician out to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

  1. hiya , im a spark and would advise you to call out one to fit a new pull chord ...as there is quite a heavy duty cable running to and from the box ( 6mm in most cases ) they are quite tricky to close back over without nipping the insulation with your retaining screws , this will only cause more problems for you ..so call in a spark and get the job done right .

  2. but a little rock on it

  3. unscrew the cap[where cord goes into near ceiling]take off old cord replace with new cord, you can buy them at B&Q for less than £1.get a nylon cord not ordinary string, nylon is a lot stronger, and will last longer.

  4. The string should tie into a small fitting that screws into the switch, inside the cover.

Turn off the power so that you don't electrocute yourself. unscrew the cover, unscrew the small fitting. Tie in the cord (you can get a new cord if you want), s***w the small fitting back into place.

(Don't forget to feed the cord through the hole in the plastic cover!)

  5. I'd go with de_instig8er ( wow nice name Harry! ) answer,99% of the time an average DIY'r will not be able to replace the pull cord, they could even find it difficult to replace the switch assembly because as previously stated the size of the cables ( 6mm-10mm ) I would recommend that you obtain the help of a qualified electrician who will replace the switch  for you

  6. You can repair it quite easily, but if you have no electrical know how, it's far safer to call an electrician in (Only a five minute job to change the whole switch, though).
