Question:

How to flatten pvc tubing?

I have six feet of 3/4" (inside) vinyl tubing.

I need to cut the tube lengthwise, and then flatten it,

so that the circumference of the old tube becomes

the width of the new piece of tube. Eg.

since the tube is 3/4" inside now, the circumference

is 3/4π or about 2.35", so when done, I want a piece

of vinyl 6' by 2.35".

Thanks in advance

  1. you could warm up the tubing with a heat gun and put some weights such as concrete blocks on the tubing to keep it flat

  2. Since it's vinyl, it should cut easy.  Start with a knife secured in a vise or wood bench. Put the tube over the point and then heat it with a hair dryer, pull the vinyl over the point of the knife it should cut in a straight line. Spread the material as you cut it and let it cool flat.

  3. You can also just buy PVC sheet and cut it to size. This outfit has it in various thicknesses.
