My cousins tried to do this for me, but I'm always scared.

We did this at 3 feet, and I'm still scared.

  1. wat jim said and take deep breaths

  2. Do this by your self. Hold on to the side of the pool with one hand. Take a deep breath and hold slightly (shallow breathing) Close your eyes and bend from the waist up back. Lift your feet and just stay there holding on until you relax. Then push out so that your arm (still holding on) is extended. Eventually your arm will be tired and you will let go. Surprise! As long as you don't move anything else, you will continue to float.

You can do it. It's like learning to ride a bike.

Edit: So sorry you don't know how to ride a bike.   It is so exciting to learn. Anyway, what I mean by that is you learn to balance and you do this by practice and just doing.  Once you learn how, you never forget.

  3. next time you go to the pool try it in the 3ft

just lean back and realx, and let it float

for the bike pedle like h**l and doing it

  4. The trick is to put your ears in the water.  You can lay there like that for hours without moving anything except your fingers and toes.

  5. Like Jim said put your ears in the water.

Also arch your back and push your stomach up

  6. back floats can be a little tricky at first. and right now your fear is the main obstacle. the key is to keep your chin and stomach high. arch your back and put your arms out to your side. take a deep breath. the air in your lungs will keep you high in the water. now the hard part.

relax your instinct is going to be to bend your waist into a seated position. don't do it. just relax and keep you back arched back.
