Maintain eye contact, sit or stand  directly  facing the individual,

use the correct facial expressions and body language to show you are interested and listening.Clarify what you don't understand

Don't be distracted by anything  else  going on in the room or they might think you are not really interested

The best way is to listen intently, comment on what they are saying and ask for clarification. It is helpful if your body is relaxed, yet alert. Your arms should not be crossed in front of your body if possible.

1. Look at the person eyes - not stare

2. Listen actively - not think of 'what's for dinner' while she is talking

3.  Be compassionate - i.e. oh really, did that happen?

4.  Nod when you agree with what's being said

5.  Paraphrase to emphasise - i.e. i see, so you mean ...?(paraphrase her statement)

6. Do Not let your eyes wander!!

7.  Do not fiddle with things, such as keys or lose change in your pocket

I usually drink coffee before attending anything important.Try to sit up straight,and try to join in vocally,and if not possible, then with body language and facial expressions.Try and make up questions in your head , and if given the chance,ask them .Never look at your watch.
