  1. Maintain eye contact, sit or stand  directly  facing the individual,

    use the correct facial expressions and body language to show you are interested and listening.Clarify what you don't understand

    Don't be distracted by anything  else  going on in the room or they might think you are not really interested

  3. The best way is to listen intently, comment on what they are saying and ask for clarification. It is helpful if your body is relaxed, yet alert. Your arms should not be crossed in front of your body if possible.

    2. Listen actively - not think of 'what's for dinner' while she is talking

    3.  Be compassionate - i.e. oh really, did that happen?
