Question:

How to forcefully remove a file?

Hello,

I need to delete a file which is linked to a rather aggressive virus that is currently wreaking havoc on my computer. I know that it is a backdoor trojan, that is stealing my passwords, logging my keystrokes, and deleting files. The file is in the c:\windows\system32 directory and is called ljJBroNd.dll as well as WinCtrl32.dll.

These files are protected in a way that I've never seen, I have tried close to everything to delete them including, command prompt, safe mode, HiJackThis, ect. Every time an attempt is made I am prompted with a message saying "Access denied" I need a way to forcefully remove these files from my computer without reformatting.

I am running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, Core 2 Duo processor, 3.5 GB RAM

Any help would be wonderful, thank you in advance.

  1. you need to install a good anti-spyware program, update it and then scan the machine. This is NOT a virus. You may need to scan in safe mode, eventually when it has stopped all the programs it will be able to remove the files. NEVER try to delete such files, if you do succeed they often spawn themselves repeatedly around the file system as they go.

  2. Hello,

Try a little program called unlocker:

    http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Just right click on the file and select unlocker and it should give you options.

And you may also want to scan your computer with MalwareBytes Antimalware:

Good Luck with it and if you need further help I suggest you seek it here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums

  3. Well if safe mode doesn't even work you can move on to the sure fire methods. Manually delete the undeletable file or get a program to do it for you. Follow the link below for instructions.

The easiest way is to get a program, I recommend Remove on Reboot Shell Extension.

BTW - Have you tried running your anti-virus in safe mode?
