Question:

How to freelance without a personal website?

I can design and code but most of my interest lies in vector graphics logos and stuff of that sort. my main problem right now is that I don't have a website and its a hassle getting one up.

another problem is I cannot use PayPal since I live in the middle east, a good alternative for it was having a merchant account.

I've been hearing about sites like elance and guru, do these require a personal website in order to promote my services and are there any better alternatives?

  1. I'd say use your talent in vector graphics to sell to stock imagery sites like shutterstock or istockphoto.  maybe also post them up for download on deviantart and put your email address down as a comment or tag.

have you tried using wordpress to build your personal portfolio?  believe me, its better to spend some time on getting your own site up and then start concentrating on getting freelance work.  if your site is good enough and it gets featured on a css gallery youre pretty much sorted.  work will slowly come in.

its all about building your own reputation and then keeping it!
