  1. Does it have a disposal?  If so, be sure to grind and flush.  Then put a box of baking soda down it, let it sit for a while, and then rinse it down.  If odor is still a problem after that, you may have something in your drain trap.

  2. Check the pipes.  Sounds like you have something stuck in the lower pipes below the sink that is causing a bad smell.  Have someone check the pipes for you if you can't do it yourself.  After you check the pipes, let some baking soda soak in for a while, or try bleach.

My husband does the home plumbing.  And no, he doesn't have "plumber's crack."

  3. you would be surprised at what collects in those pipes!

i certainly was when the plumber took ours apart to replace the faucet.

i would recommend having a plumber (or if you feel confident enough to do it yourself) clean out the pipe from your sink drain and then you can keep it fresh by spraying your sink basin with a bleach/water mixture occasionally. when you rinse this out, it will also disinfect the pipes.

you didn't mention if you have a garbage disposal or not but if you do, we keep ours fresh by tossing a lemon slice (rind and all) in there a few times a week. it works great!  i also don't put a lot of food in the disposal, it's mostly just used to catch the incidental scraps that end up in there unintentionally.

  4. try lemon :)
