  1. UK reply.

Take the tube (it's the Piccadilly line from Heathrow) to South Kensington station. You don't need to change trains.

Forget buses.  Tube is the best choice.

Don't even think about taking a taxi from the airport, will cost you a fortune and pointless for a South Ken address!

You can then walk from the tube exit or hail a passing black cab if you have a lot of luggage/long walk/raining.

Before leaving home put the post code of your destination into streetmap.co.uk and print it off to bring with you.

It will show you where it is in relation to the tube exit (you may need to move the map around a bit to get both on one page)

Bring lots of English money - it's VERY expensive here!  C/cards are used everywhere except for very small transactions!

Tell your bank when getting currency you don't just want 20 pound notes you want to some 10 and 5 notes.   Don't accept 50 pound notes, not used in normal life.

When you buy your tube ticket ask for a mixture of coins in your change and if necessary give them another note and ask for coins in exchange.

Euros/US Dollars/Travellers cheques etc. are not useable (a few shops will accept) normally.

Don't wear Ipod white earpieces - advertising for it to be stolen!

Keep your phone in your pocket when on the streets!

    Have a great time!

  2. Underground it...the heathrow express is a waste of money.

  3. From heathrow take Piccadilly line direct to South Kensington will take you almost an hour to get there, if you are not going anywhere else then a return ticket, however if you are then planning to go out later and use a bus or tube to get into the city a travelcard would be cheaper.

    Good Luck

  4. The cheapest & best way of getting around London is by public transport.     The Piccadilly line goes right from Heathrow to South Kensington and it should take approximately 45 minutes.

This link gives some good information on how the tube works, fares & Oyster cards:

This is the link to the Transport for London website which has a route planner, maps & more information on fares:

  5. The Piccadilly line on the Underground goes directly from Heathrow to South Kensington. It will probably take about 45 minutes and cost £4.

  6. Underground is much cheaper I believe than the Heathrow express and very easy.

  7. Tube is the most direct, from all terminals the Picadilly line goes direct to South Kensington station.

  8. JUST A LITTLE MORE DETAIL

=> The underground (tube) that goes into Heathrow is the Piccadilly Line. These trains are constructed with a lot of floor space for people with luggage (but there are no luggage bins). However, this is not luxury travel. HEADS UP: Pack carefully since when the train gets crowded people may fall onto your luggage. Don't have a lot of small bags since these might get pinched.  Have luggage with wheels. These underground stations are over a 100 years old. You may have to walk some distance and possibly climb some stairs that without escalators.

=>. Purchase an "oyster card" in the airport. It will save you money and  then you can use it to see the city. Put sufficient money on the card. Don't worry, you will be refunded the difference at the end of your trip along with the 3 pound security deposit for the card. It's easier than adding money when you run out. Don't worry about using the card inefficiently. The oyster card automatically stops charging at some point so that you are always getting the best fare.

->  There is a station on the Piccadilly line named "South Kensington". Travel time should be 50 minutes. However, make sure your hotel is close to the "South Kensington" tube stop. It may be better to get off one stop earlier or later.

=> The "Heathrow Express" is laid out much better (with luggage racks). Unfortunately it will deposit you at Paddington Station which several miles from your intended location. Either you are facing an expensive taxi ride (with a wait in a queue) or a miserable underground ride on trains that are NOT laid out for luggage. Between the costs of the Heathrow Express and the taxi it will cost you about half what a taxi the entire way from the airport costs.
