How to gain stamina and improve mile time?

I'm a slow runner and I don't have much stamina. What is the easiest way to improve my mile time and gain stamina? Currently, I would have to say that my mile time is about 10 minutes, but it used to be around 8:30 a few months ago when I was going to the gym more often. I absolutely hate cardio, but I know I have to do it to lose weight. I used to be able to jog the whole thing at about a 6.7 and at 8.0 for the last tenth of a mile, but now, I get exhausted jogging at 6.6 for 5-6 minutes.

What do you think is a good cardio workout to gain more stamina? I hate being on the treadmill for more than 15 minutes because my feet start to hurt, so if I could incorporate other machines such as an elliptical or stationary bike, that would be great.

  2. The key to getting more stamina is just pushing yourself. When you think you have to stop, push yourself to go longer. Even if its only a few seconds longer...

Since you hate cardio so much, there are other exercises you can do instead of running. You could try dance work out videos, or tae-bo stuff.

I also suggest after you do anykind of working out, to do some yoga stuff or just stretch in some way... doing this will make your muscles long and lean.
