i know, this may seem like a weird question...but i'm having some problems gaining weight

my BMI lists me as slightly underweight (18.0). i'm about 5'7", 5'8" weighing around 125 lbs.

i can gain up to about 5lbs during the day, but when i go to sleep, it disappears, leaving me back with a weight between 120-125 lbs.

i'm fairly fit, doing about 6 hrs of exercise each week, and i don't skip a single meal.

any help here guys?

  1. stop exercising so much. eating more won't do that much if you have a fast metabolism, it'll just adjust. you might want to ask your doctor about it next time you see him.

  2. Yes you do lose weight in your sleep, which is a nusiance for people like yourself who are trying to gain.

Keep working out, definately dont drop or you'll throw your bodies balance of what its used to out of wack. Stay hydrated, drink lots of gatoraid, or poweraid. (anything with electrolytes really)

Have lots of protein. And if you can work yogurt into your diet do that too.

Since you work out dont go the sugary, high fructose junk food route of gaining weight. You'll only lose it again since you work out, and it'll make you lethargic.

Edit- Chips, Cake and stuff like that will make your workout hard. Go with healthy foods that will naturaly make you gain. Meats, eggs and fish. You'll feel MUCH better.

  3. The key ingredient to gaining muscle mass is to add lots of PROTEIN to your daily diet. You should have 1.0-1.5 grams of protein for each pound you weigh. Protein helps your body to build lean muscle after your workout. Speaking of workout, I would start with simple toning exercises (low weight/more reps) to get your muscles used to being worked. After about 2 weeks you can go to the strengthening exercises (high weight/low reps). This will break down your muscles fast and with all the protein in your diet, when they heal it will be solid lean muscle mass. Muscle weighs alot more than fat.

  4. protein, creatine. or just quit sleeping, that would work too.

  5. WEIGHT GAINER AT GNC

  6. EAT like a ton of chips, cake and ice cream. also dont get out of bed ntil at least 1"00 pm and just keep eatin

  7. Definitely dont do what flip flopper says. If you want to gain weight, the best way is a workout program.  You should consult a gym or trainer about setting up a program for you.  Or you could use your school weight room.  Another option that is easier and also gives you good results is a pushup regimen. You should do them every other day, doing eight sets of your max, and you should see results quickly *** your max will increase steadily. For example I started out doing eight sets of 20 pushups, now i am doing eight sets of 75 pushups.  To supplement this you should use creatine. I hope I have helped.  Remember the key to gaining weight is not to just eat and eat and sleep all day.  That is extremely unhealthy.  You may just have skinny genes like me.  Although I am 6'2" so I weighed about 160 pounds before I started lifting weights and doing pushups. Now I weigh about 175 and still gaining.

    P.S.

I gained 15 pounds eating right and waking up early.  Sitting on your *** will get you nowhere. Get out there, lift weights and do pushups, youll see results.  Good luck.

  8. I'll assume your thyroid is functioning properly. One of the problems for you is probably too much exercise, try to cut back as cardio will speed up your metabolism too fast. The other problem is probably simply that you are not consuming enough calories. These are tips that I use and may help you as well:

    * eat lots of carbs (pastas, potatoes, breads)

    * eat lots of peanut butter sandwiches - calorie dense food

    * eat lots of bannanas - calorie dense fruit

    * eat lots of nuts and avocados - calorie dense food

    * eat lots of meals like 8 a day

    * protein shakes

    * drink olive oil straight up. it is jam packed with calories and is a healthy oil, like 476 calories in a 2 ounce shot glass that you can consume in under a minute. it tastes nasty and may make you gag if you don't use water to wash it down. so this is how i do it, i take a sip of water immediately follow with a sip of oil and then real fast wash it down with a sip of water. i keep doing this several times until it empty. i use those disposable 3 ounce dixie brand cups for brushing teething, fill one with oil and the other with water. you'll need to refill the water one several times so be by the sink.

    * consume 500 more calories per day than what you need to maintain your current body weight. this will allow you to put on 1 pound a week. you don't want to put on more than 2 pounds per week for health reasons

    * keep track of your calories with http://www.fitday.com (free) or http://www.dietpower.com (free trial). if you don't track your calories you will usually under eat and not gain the weight

    * lift weights, lift heavy weights for 5 reps. you need to do this because muscle weights more than fat

    * limit cardio exercise - you don't want to speed up an already fast metabolism

EDIT: to get accurate calorie counting you will also need to pick up a scale. they sell food scales specific for this but i just use a cheap digital postal scale i picked up off of ebay and toss a plate on it press the tare button to zero out the plate weight then load the food on it to get a gram / ounce count that i then use to type into my DietPower software for calorie tracking
