I already graduated but with a BFA. To get a CDA does that mean I need to go back to school first? I heard I need 120 hrs of interacting with children to also get a CDA. how can I do that when most childcare centers need you to get a CDA in the first place. and where do I go to get a CDA?

  1. Contact the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition in Washington . They administer the program and may know where you can get training nearby. You could also contact a local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency. They might offer the training or know who does. You need 120 hours of training and 420 hours of working with children under Kindergarten by the time you apply to be assessed. Perhaps you could get a job as an Assistant Teacher in a day care program. There are written and oral tests, an observation in your classroom and you must prepare a very specific resource file.

There are programs which offer the 120 hours on-line but I do not recommend it. The great value of the training is the exchange of ideas and concrete hands-on interaction with teaching materials.
