  1. I went to Citivecchia (which is like a hour from Rome) to the port and there are lots of taxis there that offer tours because lots of cruise ships dock there. I saw every important landmark in Rome for 150 euro (roughly about $170-$180) and i got to take my time, eat, shop, everything :) It was great...It was a lot better than walking everywhere and I got to see everything in a shorter amount of time

  2. i think its actually better to go around yourself...tours are much too expensive and you would have to be rushed at times and have to wait for other people you dont even know at other times. its MUCH better to be just you and whoever you're with. you have time to do what you want, eat when you'd like, roam around seeing the sights...

  4. usually there are random tour guides asking to give tours at landmarks, etc.

  5. Yeah, honestly, I've paid for a few group tours and there're always people who didn't pay for the tour just a few steps behind, listening to everything the tour guide says. No one can stop you from doing this, just show up at the place you want to visit and they will show you everything. I do recommend going to Villa Borghese when you're there. It's fantastic. It feels about ten degrees cooler than the rest of the city.

  7. IF you're up for walking, you can easilly do it yourself.  There are visitor information booths all over the city.  There's almost always at least one person that speaks English.  They have great free maps that give walking directions (or bus lines).

Try the one directly in front of the central train station.
