How to get Driving License in Louisiana for Pending Green Card Application?

I'm Married to green card holder in Slidell, LA. My green card application is still pending. I need a drivers license because of my 2 toddlers, but DMV rejected they asked me to wait for the Green card which will take 5 more years. I really need some expert advice as I don't want to break any rules of this country.

You don't have to posess a "Green Card" to get a DL in the USA, but you do have to be in the USA on certain types of visas.  You cannot get a DL if you are considered a "visitor".

My advice is that you consult an immigration attorney for help coping with the DMV bureaucracy. If you are already using an attorney to help with the Green Card process they should help you with the DL application.

In the meantime, can you get a DL from your home country?  If yes, you can legally drive on it until your residency is approved.
