I must use Excel 2007 to complete an assigned survey. To select my answer, I must Bold the number which applies to my answer. But when I use Excel 2007 I highlight the number and hit the bold button, but after moving on it will Un-Bold my answer.

No matter what I do I can not get Bold to stay on.

  1. try to format your cells on exal to cutoms text then try to bold your answer

    should work stright away

  2. sounds like maybe someone "protected" the sheet.  When someone protects a sheet, one of the options is to now allow changes to the format of a cell.

to check it, go to the Home ribbon, drop the down format option and check the protect sheet option.  See if it's protected or unprotected. There may be a password on it that prevents you from unprotected it too.  If that's the case, there's nothing you can do.

also, just to make sure it's that sheet and not excel itself, create a brand new file and try to bold something.  if it works (which I suspect it will), then it's an issue with the sheet you're working on (and pretty much has to be the protected issue described above)

  3. Try and right click on the cell and go down to 'format cells..', click on the font tab and select bold from the 'Font Style' selections.
