  1. Just keep practising and it will come, not other way im afraid!!!!

  2. i was the same as you when i started, i remember the tips of my fingers were really tender for the first 2 weeks, then they started to harden and the pain stopped. within the next week i had a little bit of hard skin develop which disappeared after a short while and then they looked normal again but felt a little harder than my right fingertips and i could play for hours on end without any pain in my fingertips, watch out for the cramp in the wrist too, it will take your arm a while to adjust to the new positioning, its a bit like taking up jogging, you will naturally suffer the next day because you are using muscles you dont usually use. I am afraid it is true what they say...........No pain, No gain! good luck with the guitar! you will be fine!

  3. learn on an acoustic.. if you aren't already.. the strings are harder to hold down..

umm.. basically a little finger pain is the price you pay.. but if you play daily it shouldn't take long to callus up.. i can't remember how long it took me.. but i'd say about two weeks to a month.. depending on how much you play..

  4. Play a 4 string bass for a week.

Mine were tough after a week of playing every day for about a half hour.

You could always get a finger excersizer.

They have special attachments to build calluses fast.

    And they're pretty cheap.
