How to get Iqama in Saudia for foreigners?

Dear all,

Please advice me on how to get Iqama for my case. My upcoming husband is a Canadian and now working in Saudi Arabia on contract based. We would like to have a religious-based married as we both support polygamy, which for sure can not be done in Canada. Is is possible for me to have the Iqama/residence permit in Saudi?

Please I would like to have serious reply, along with the question spirit and not judging our choice of Polygamy itself.

Many thanks in advance.

  1. I think you can marry islamically in Canada. Then your husband can sponsor you.

You can also enter polygamous marriage agreements in Holland.

So you can finish all this, before you come to Saudi Arabia.

Other ways to do that? No, unless you first get an iqama for KSA- but for that you would have to work there or be someone's dependent which is not yet the case.

  2. I think you need to be married legally and Islamically (assuming you're a Muslim) in order to have the Iqama issued.  I am really not sure if your husband is allowed to sponsor more than one wife.  That is a question he should ask here, or maybe you can call the Saudi Arabian Embassy.

    Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia

99 Bank Street Suite 901, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1P 6B9

    Telephone (613) 237-4100

    Fax (613) 237-0567

You should check out the website for the Saudi Embassy in the US for the basic requirements since I'm sure it will be the same for Canadian citizens.

If you're Muslim, then why can't you get married Islamically?  I have heard of many cases of polygamy among Muslims in Canada.  The only problem is only one wife is recognized legally.

    ____________

Is it possible to get legally married in your home country? Or, you can just try applying with only the Islamic marriage. If he's not planning on bringing his first wife to Saudi Arabia, then you probably won't have a problem. Your husband needs to talk to his employer to make sure he's eligible to sponsor you. There are some requirements because there are many low-paid workers here who cannot bring their families because they don't make enough money to support a family. Also, his company should be able to help him with the necessary paperwork.
